PARALEGAL or DOCUMENT-PROCESSING SERVICES:
Document processing services such as “We the People” or “________ Paralegal Services” want to hook you into buying their services because there are “No attorneys to pay”. This implies that a hiring a divorce attorney will always cost more money than using their service. (We don’t.)
Practicing law is not unlike any other skilled trade in that all licensing requirements are instituted to protect the consumer. In the same manner that you would hire a licensed electrician to safely install wiring your home, you should hire an attorney to inform you of your rights and represent you in court or in any action.
Being misinformed of your rights can cost you THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.
Our firm wishes to offer an alternative to these services, since, quite commonly, these businesses put people at risk of losing money or their rights. How you put yourself at risk by choosing a document-processing service:
| 1. | A document processing firm is usually staffed by persons who have never even seen the inside of a courtroom. |
| 2. | Employees / paralegals are not required to take Continuing Legal Education courses updating them on changes in the law, as attorneys are required to. |
| 3. | Employees / paralegals are not licensed to give legal advice by New York State. |
| 4. | If your action becomes contested or there is a problem, a document processing firm CANNOT represent you in court, potentially leading to a complete loss of the fees that you have paid them. |

OTHER ATTORNEYS: Other divorce or family law attorneys may charge up to $400.00 (or more) per hour for their services in a simple divorce action. Our firm provides over twenty-five years of combined legal experience at a LOW flat cost. Even if additional services are necessary or your action becomes contested, our hourly rate is 30-50% lower than other New York attorneys. Further, some attorneys advertise low fees for divorce actions without informing clients of the necessary court costs or state “Uncontested Divorce $___” without telling people that the price only applies to certain marriages.
We do not do that here. Honesty is another one of my policies.
